英語里的“天氣習(xí)語” 

1.Bolt from the blue 晴天霹靂 

用來形容事情發(fā)生得如此突然，讓人感到驚訝和措手不及。 

例句： 

I had only recently seen Steve in a restaurant. The news of his death came as a bolt from the blue. 

我不久前才在一間餐館里見過史蒂夫，他的死訊來得猶如晴天霹靂。 

2.To have a face like thunder 火冒三丈 

形容一個人非常生氣，達(dá)到怒不可遏的程度。 

例句： 

He had a face like thunder when he came out of the manager's office this morning. 

他今天早上從經(jīng)理辦公室出來的時候滿臉怒氣。 

3.To take a rain check 改天吧，以后再說 

表示當(dāng)下不能做什么事情，但是不排除日后的可能。 

例句： 

Do you mind if I take a rain check on that lunch invitation? I'm going to be away all week

你介意不介意我改日再去赴約吃午飯？我這周都不在。 

4.It never rains but it pours! 禍不單行 

糟糕的事情一個接一個發(fā)生。 

例句： 

Poor Sarah, she lost her job and now she has a car accident. It never rains but it pours! 

可憐的薩拉，她剛丟了工作，現(xiàn)在又出了車禍，真是禍不單行啊。 

5.A storm in a teacup 小題大做 

本來是小事一樁，可是經(jīng)過渲染，變成了大問題。 

例句： 

Lucy was calling the police when her cat disappeared, it all sounds like a storm in a teacup. 

露西發(fā)現(xiàn)她的貓不見了就去報警，我看這未必有點兒小題大做。 

6.On cloud nine 非常高興，心情十分舒暢 

形容一個人的心情好的不能再好了。 

例句： 

When the boss announced my promotion, I was on cloud nine. 

當(dāng)老板宣布我獲得晉升時，我非常高興。 

7.To chase the rainbows 追逐彩虹，癡人說夢 

形容一個人盡是想好事，而且是不太可能的事。 

例句： 

You have only started two months ago, you are already thinking about promotion. Well, I think you're just chasing rainbows. 

你才來了兩個月就想著升職的事情了，我看啊，你是凈想好事兒呢。 

8.Once in a blue moon 千載難逢地，百年不遇 

形容非常罕見。 

例句： 

Brian has very little contact with his sister. They see each other once in a blue moon. 

布萊恩和他姐姐沒有什么聯(lián)系。他們很少見面。 

9.Every cloud has a silver lining 黑暗中總有一線光明 

鼓勵人們即使在最困難的時刻也不要失去信心或放棄希望。 

例句： 

Don't worry too much about your dropping out of university, every cloud has a silver lining. 

大學(xué)輟學(xué)這事兒你也別太擔(dān)憂，塞翁失馬，焉知非福。 

10.A fair-weather friend 可共安樂不能共患難的朋友 

這和同甘共苦意思相反，指那些關(guān)鍵時刻靠不住的朋友。 

例句： 

I thought I could count on Sue, but I've discovered she's just a fair-weather friend. 

我以為我能依賴蘇這個人呢，不過，我發(fā)現(xiàn)她只不過是個只能同甘不能共苦的朋友。
