美國(guó)的成語(yǔ)或俗語(yǔ)和其他語(yǔ)言一樣同生活中的各個(gè)方面有關(guān)。有一些和食品有關(guān)，有的來(lái)自撲克牌游戲，還有的和穿著有聯(lián)系。今天我們要講的兩個(gè)習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)是和鞋子、手套有關(guān)系的。首先，我們要介紹的是"The shoe is on the other foot"。

The shoe is on the other foot的意思是：形勢(shì)已經(jīng)完全不同了。下面這個(gè)例子就能夠說(shuō)明the shoe is on the other foot在日常會(huì)話中是怎么用的：

例句-1: "Back in school we made fun of Jones because we thought he spent too much time studying instead of having fun. Now the shoe is on the other foot -- he's made lots of money and the rest of us are just barely making enough to feed our families."

這句話翻成中文就是說(shuō)："以前在學(xué)校里念書(shū)的時(shí)候，我們老是笑話瓊斯，認(rèn)為他這個(gè)人老是念書(shū)，不會(huì)玩?？墒牵F(xiàn)在情況就完全不同了。他賺了不少錢，而我們這些人的收入只夠維持家計(jì)而已。"

下面的一個(gè)例子是一個(gè)球迷在夸耀當(dāng)?shù)氐陌羟蜿?duì)：

例句-2: "For the last ten years the Tigers have been the worst team in the league: we've finished down at the bottom. But now the shoe is on the other foot: we have all these good young players and we're beating everybody else in the whole league."

這句話的意思是："我們這個(gè)地方的球隊(duì)老虎隊(duì)十年前是參加聯(lián)賽的所有球隊(duì)中最次的一個(gè)，比賽結(jié)果老是最后一名。現(xiàn)在可不同了。我們球隊(duì)的隊(duì)員都很年輕，球藝也好。他們把其他球隊(duì)一個(gè)個(gè)全打敗了。"

現(xiàn)在我們來(lái)講一個(gè)和手套有關(guān)的習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)： To work hand in glove

To work hand in glove的意思是密切合作。我們來(lái)舉個(gè)例子吧：

例句-3: "The local police are working hand in glove with the FBI to find the bank robbers."

這是說(shuō)："當(dāng)?shù)氐木煺诤吐?lián)邦調(diào)查局密切合作設(shè)法找到那些搶劫銀行的罪犯。"

Hand in glove這個(gè)詞匯也經(jīng)常用在反面的場(chǎng)合，形容一些人合謀犯罪等。下面就是一個(gè)例子：

例句-4: "I read in the paper about this customs officer they arrested at the airport. They caught him working hand in glove with a gang of smugglers to bring diamonds into the country without paying duty."
