while是我們都很熟悉的一個(gè)詞，平時(shí)寫(xiě)作上也會(huì)經(jīng)常用到，但很多人對(duì)它的理解還是很片面的?？赡艹吮硎尽爱?dāng)……的時(shí)候”，其他意思都不太了解，更別談when和as的區(qū)別。今天我們講講while的相關(guān)用法，一起學(xué)習(xí)吧。

一、考查表示時(shí)間的用法，其意為“當(dāng)……的時(shí)候”。

如：

1.We must strike while the iron is hot. 

我們要趁熱打鐵。

2.Stand still while I take your photograph.

我給你拍照時(shí)站著不要?jiǎng)印?/span>

3.Have we got enough books to read while we are on holiday? 

假期里我們有足夠的書(shū)看嗎?

4.Were there any calls for me while I was out? 

我出去的時(shí)候，有人來(lái)過(guò)電話嗎?

5.She hates anyone listening while she is telephoning. 

她打電話時(shí)不愿讓任何人聽(tīng)。

二、考查表示讓步的用法，其意為“盡管”“雖然”。

如：

1.While the work was difficult, it was interesting. 

雖然工作有難度，但很有趣。

2.While I understand what you say, I can’t agree with you. 

雖然我理解你的意思，但我還是不同意。

3.While the Internet is of great help, I don’t think it’s a good idea to spend too much time on it.

雖然因特網(wǎng)很有幫助，但我還是認(rèn)為在其上花太多的時(shí)間不是個(gè)好主意。

4.While we don’t agree we continue to be friends. 

盡管我們意見(jiàn)不同，我們還是朋友。

5.While I did well in class, I was a poor performer at games. 

雖說(shuō)我學(xué)習(xí)不錯(cuò)，我運(yùn)動(dòng)卻不行。

6.While a few became richer, many did not. 

雖然一些人變得更富有了，但多數(shù)人并非如此。

三、考查表示對(duì)比的用法，其意為“而”“但”。

如：

1.In some places women are expected to earn money while  men work at home and raise theirchildren. 

有些地方婦女掙錢(qián)，而男子則在家里持家和帶孩子。

2.I went swimming while the others played tennis. 

我去游泳，而其余的人則去打網(wǎng)球了。

3.Air is a fluid but not a liquid, while water is both a fluid and a liquid.

空氣是流體不是液體，水是流體也是液體。

4.Some people waste food while others haven’t enough. 

一些人糟踏食物而另一些人卻食不果腹。

5.I went swimming while the others played tennis. 

我去游泳，而其余的人則去打網(wǎng)球了。

6.Prices are rising sharply, while incomes are lagging far behind. 

物價(jià)飛漲而收入?yún)s遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)落后。

注意：這樣用時(shí)，while引出的句子通常位于末，但有時(shí)也可位于句首。如：

While most children learn to read easily, some need extra help.

大多數(shù)兒童學(xué)會(huì)閱讀很容易，有一些兒童卻需要特別幫助。

While some languages have 30 or more different vowel sounds, others have five or less.

有些語(yǔ)言有30個(gè)或更多的元音，而其他語(yǔ)言只有5個(gè)或更少的元音。

While Deauville is a holiday resort, Trouville is more of a working town.

特維爾是個(gè)度假勝地，而特魯維爾更多的卻是個(gè)工業(yè)城市。

四、考查其省略用法，即主句與從句主語(yǔ)相同，且從句謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞含有動(dòng)詞be時(shí)，通?？墒÷詮木渲髡Z(yǔ)和動(dòng)詞be。

如：

1.While (he was) in prison, she wrote her first novel. 

她在獄中寫(xiě)出了第一部小說(shuō)。

2.He had strayed from home while still a boy. 

他小時(shí)候就離開(kāi)家到處流浪了。

3.He fell asleep while (he was) doing his homework. 

他做著做著功課就睡著了。

4.I was only listening to the radio with half an ear, while (I was) preparing some food.

我正在做吃的東西，沒(méi)太留心聽(tīng)收音機(jī)。
